I used to constantly ask my husband if I could borrow one of his cameras (he was a photographer long before me). Eventually, after enough asking—or maybe just enough annoying—he surprised me with one of my own. Neither of us knew then that this simple gift would open my world, spark something new in me, and slowly grow into what’s now Shanda Spitzer Photography.
At first, I didn’t set out to start a business. On my lunch breaks, I’d take my camera downtown and do amateur street photography, just capturing whatever caught my eye. I shared those photos on Instagram, and people responded with so much kindness. Soon after, friends started asking if I’d take photos for them.
That’s when something shifted. I realized what I loved most wasn’t just pressing the shutter — it was noticing the in-between moments. The laughter, the movement, the little pieces of life that feel ordinary now but mean everything later.
Those early inquiries opened the door to dreaming, and those dreams are still unfolding. Every session, every family, every story reminds me that what started with curiosity (and maybe a little persistence with my husband) has become a way to give people something timeless — proof of their love, their chaos, their right-now moments.
